AJ Laser 230z 73" Build Thread

I was having a hard time with this myself. Still trying to figure out the best method. It really depends on what exhaust you are running and how you position the choke arm on the carb. I like the top photo personally, but might run a phenolic board instead of the aluminum. I still haven't...

    The 3DRCForums -Discuss Anything Thread-

Has anyone ever used a 3s A123 with a voltage regulator to 7.4v? Seems like it would be a way to use HV for an A123 pack.

    DLE 35RA Muffler bolts

Much better! I would even consider another 1/4" on either side of the exhaust pipes (outboard sides). It would even make it easier to take the clamps off the exhaust tubes, and get them away from the ign lead.

RedwingRC Pin and Flag with Hidden Dual Battery Redundancy Switch!

I like this idea. I could essentially make a redundant Rx setup with this, and add an RCEXEL Optio Kill Switch w/IBEC to get rid of the extra battery just for the IGN. It seems to me that a redundant LiPo setup for HV makes more sense than a redundant A123 due to their know reliability under...

RedwingRC Pin and Flag with Hidden Dual Battery Redundancy Switch!

So is this the Booma RC version? Or? http://www.boomarc.com/en/hidden-balance-switch-with-pin-flag Would this work as a battery redundancy for Ign & Rx for smaller 30cc planes? Or is that a no no and will cause interference?

    DLE 35RA Muffler bolts

I would personally say that the outlet is too small in comparison to the openings. Will it work as is... probably. If you wanted to you could blank off the two cowling ears to help with the ratio. You should be able to fly the plane for a flight, put your finger on the nose of the crankcase...

Can you upload a pic of the inlet too? It should work but maybe borderline small.

AJ 73" Laser 230z Aileron Servo Installation. Started with the basics, found the servo screws center with a larger drill bit, drilled pilot holes, tapped with the screw, removed screw, and wick in some Thin CA. Bam! done, movin' on I laid every think out so folks can get an idea of what I'm...

    DLE 35RA Muffler bolts

It's a little tricky to get the right airflow with these rear exhaust engines unless you have a tunnel. I've seen people block out the forward cowl inlets to concentrate the inlet air just around the cylinder opening itself. Some have even re-directed the airflow but using small Dixie cups, and...

AJ Laser 230z 73" Build Thread

Thanks for the kind words! The only reason it's been coming together so quick is that I am into the build pretty far already and am playing catch up. I'm about to plateau, because I have a few questions in the near future regarding batts, switches, and throttle linkages to come. and so true...

    DLE 35RA Muffler bolts

This is what's great about forums... people who share their experience with each other without pointing fingers. I said "some throw away the gasket", I also said "the original bolts did not protrude out the casting" meaning that the bolts were not grabbing all of the threads. That's what I meant...

    DLE 35RA Muffler bolts

Can't say that I disagree. My DLE35RA Muffler is a sloppy fit. You can lightly snug up the bolts and you can still move it around pretty good. With that said, the muffler is going to eventually try and wander with all the vibration going on, even under torque. I figure that any way you can...

    DLE 35RA Muffler bolts

I had mine come loose during my 5th gallon. It actually ended up in the cowling after I did a pop-top. You could audibly hear the exhaust note change and feel the loss of power. I had to grab some bolts like you did. One thing I noticed was that the stock threads did not protrude out the...

AJ 73" Laser 230z Elevator Installation: Just like installing the Rudder, except I did one control surface at a time, starting with the RH surface and joiner. I simply placed the LH surface to maintain alignment. This give you more time to work with the epoxy and alignment as necessary. Once...

AJ 73" Laser 230z Horizontal Installation: I used some lacing chord, tied a loop on either end, went from the inboard side of the wing tube to the outboard tip of the horizontal, and matched the other side as best I could. I double checked the fit with a ruler by laying it across the leading...

AJ Laser 230z 73" Build Thread

I personally think this setup is great with just a plain old strait arm at 3" spacing. I think the offset look the best, but not needed for this application. I think people call this "Neutral Ackermann". What you don't want is for the cables to be loose in the neutral position, and get tight as...

AJ 73" Laser 230z After the rudder is cured, Fire up the RX and make sure your rudder arm is moving in the right direction and that it's as centered as you can get it, now you can attach the control cables up, center the rudder, tighten the cables (I found that the crimps I used slid with a...
