Got a couple of Y axis locking knobs made for my mill.

PM Research Mini Engine Lathe Build

I've been running about 500 rpm. I did try some carbide on my lathe at 800rpm and .030 cuts, witch it did just fine with a nice finish. For removing a lot of material fast, it worked out pretty well. I built a couple of X axis locks for my mill, I'll get a pic of that soon. I did get more work...

PM Research Mini Engine Lathe Build

Thanks Tony. I'll check out that tapered gib mod and see if I can get it done on mine. I have to keep tightening up the screws under the apron to try and keep slop out, and their not easy to get to. I'd also like to make a compound slide eliminator post block. If I do I might also get the next...

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

Yep, blind nuts should be fine. Just check them after every couple flights to begin with. As the engine shakes and the wood compresses, they tend to loosen up now and then. The firewall atachment points are more vulnerable than the engine mount bolts.

Thinking of going electric with this one! 🤣

PM Research Mini Engine Lathe Build

Thanks Tony! I'm learning that these small parts also don't have mutch tolerance for any kind of pressure. I've got to be a bit gentle with them. I can see where form tooling could be an issue for smaller parts, as well as regidity and power on these small machines for the larger parts. Thanks...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

Prayers for healing for the both of you! A lot of people in our area have been bitten as well. Most are getting through it within a couple of weeks, with a lingering head cold. Looks like the window is going to turn out great.

PM Research Mini Engine Lathe Build

Last night I got the handles made, from the supplied 1/8" brass round stock. The first one blew up, but I think I got the hang of turning small stock down a bit better over the process. The kit suplied enough to make 4 of these, but only requires 3, so I was in luck! I don't yet have any form...

PM Research Mini Engine Lathe Build

A couple pics of the handwheels for the carrage and cross slide. I spent a lot of time with these little pieces so far.

PM Research Mini Engine Lathe Build

I think this is a good place to post this project. It is going to be a learning experience for me mostly. I don't have much experience in fabrication, so this project should expand my horizons. It's a mini engine lathe kit from PM Research, and they have a lot of other small kits to choose from...

    Yippee! What the postman brought

🤣 I was pondering that!! I wasn't sure if this was a good place to post updates, so I started a new thread here: https://www.giantscalenews.com/threads/pm-research-mini-engine-lathe-build.11543/

    Yippee! What the postman brought

Joe did a magnificent job on his. I don't think I'll come anywhere close to his perfection. I spent about 2 and a half hours last night on one handle and it still needs work.

Yeppers! Working great so far! And after using the DRO for a bit, I'm definitely wanting to put one on my mini lathe.

    Yippee! What the postman brought

Not the post man, but it was unwrapped on the 25th. This is a tiny lathe kit, and will help me develop my machining skills. I'll be following Joe's build videos. Can't wait to get started, but first, more tooling.

Got them finished up and they work great so far.
