Resurrection U Can Do 60 Repair

Built a hinge drill guide for drilling the hinges in. I've learned the hard way not to try and freehand it.

Resurrection U Can Do 60 Repair

I'm going to use the Robart hinges. I ended up putting them in the elevators after a couple tries with the others and they are still holding up. I like to use Gorilla Glue on them as well.

Resurrection U Can Do 60 Repair

Fit turned out good. I just have to hinge and final sand before I get some covering on them and glue the fin in. Down the road, I'm planning on doing a full scratch build on a UCD 60.

Resurrection U Can Do 60 Repair

Took the measurements from the old parts and made some new ones, though I shorted the rudder by 2.25 inches.

Resurrection U Can Do 60 Repair

I used my Byrnes saw to rip some 3/8 balsa sheet to the stick size I wanted to use to build the new fin and rudder, which is 3/8 x 1/2 and 3/8 x 3/16 stock. I've also set my old harbor freight saw just Infront of the Byrnes saw. I've found that It saves me a lot of time, as I can cut the longer...

Resurrection U Can Do 60 Repair

I was able to remove the fin buy using a hacksaw blade and blade holder. It wasn't too bad. I also wanted to make the fin post longer, and extend down towards the bottom of the fuse, so I cut that portion out as well.

Taking a break from the Cub to get some work done on one of my favorite planes to fly, my UCD 60, with a DLE 20. I've been flying it for a few years now and because of the extra-large control surfaces, the tail feathers take a beating. I've already re-hinged the elevators and rudder a few times...

    Mini lathe (and mill) discussion.

Yep, the fence came with the saw. That was something I was wanting when looking for one.

Scale Bud Nosen 1/4 Scale Cub?

I had a little extra cash and just couldn't shake the lathe idea, so I purchased the cheapest one I could find. I know I'll have to do a lot of work to it, but that was part of the reason I got it, as a learning experience. I've done some work on getting the tailstock level and parallel with the...

Scale Bud Nosen 1/4 Scale Cub?

Well, things started showing up and it got a little crazy. I had no idea just how big the bandsaw was. I almost popped a gasket getting it into the hobby room. It will probably end up in the garage with my larger woodworking stuff. Here's a pic of the WALL, but it will probably change.

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

Really good work there! Would it be easier for the bolts to come in from the backside? Will you braze the mount to the structure, or goockumpucky it?

    Mini lathe (and mill) discussion.

It's been on my list for a while now as well. Figured I'd better get back to basics before jumping ahead.

Nice! Never thought of doing that, with the return spring.
