Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

Finished cleaning off the right wing yesterday, what a pain getting the screws out since I had filed the heads down to reduce the height when it was originally covered. The original screws were slotted, had to re-slot a few where the filing was aggressive. The new screws are button heads with...

That's pretty typical, I bought a 4x8 sheet from Eplastics and had them cut it into 6 24" x 32" pieces. They shipped it rolled so shipping wasn't too bad. What size are looking for? I can get is and mail to you if you like.

The ribs are 1/4" x 1/8" Sitka spruce. I think you will be fine once covered. The tips are basswood, it is almost finished, had to quit for a while, sanding was boring me to tears. I used Titebond III to laminate the bows, that adds to making the sanding more difficult. Might be ready for...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

Just a short update, last season I damaged the left wing while experiencing pilot induced isolations. While recovering both wings I am correcting a couple of errors in the build. The plans show the leading edge sheeting ending at the last full rib while the service manual shows it ending at...

The last two molds until the fuselage is painted and ready to mold. Making a mold for the main wheels so that that they will get laid up with KEVLAR, plan to put the hard points in while laying up the pants, one right, one left. The other plug is the revised main gear fairing. Have the Champ...

To mount the nose pant, .100 thick disc were silver brazed to both sides of the fork, these were drilled tapped for 4-40 threads. 3/4" aircraft plywood disc were counterbored to allow the the dipping washers to push the pant material into the counterbore of the plywood with a epoxy/milled fiber...

I don't see the fuss over Hysol, maybe someone that has used it can shine some light on the subject. Seemed like the guys that built Cardens were high on it? Your firewall still looks thick. Is that carbon tape on the side?

David, You mentioned Hysol, what is the cure time for Hysol? I'm too cheap to use it! I really could never see the benefit verses the cost, if I need a nice fillet, mix up some epoxy and filler , dispense with a monoeject tube.

No problem Snoop. Pulled the nosewheel pant out of the mold. 1 layer of 2 ounce cloth and 1 layer of four ounce cloth, these were laid up and trimmer while green flush to the mold. After curing the inner surface was lightly sanded with 80 grit. Six ounce KEVLAR was fitted 1/4" below the part...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

I use .040 for vacuum forming because it thins out as it is stretched over the plug, actually ordered a couple of sheets of .060" the make canopies for my One Designs because .040 thins out too much. .020" is just too thin for a large flat windshield so .030 or .040 is what I would use. If you...

Got the nose wheel pant mold completed. Also pulled the first yoke out of the mold, I think I'll call this one a prototype and make two more.
