91" SkyWing ARS 300 Assembly Thread

After four more flights I’m learning how the plane flies. It’s easy to give it too much elevator so I need to learn to tame my thumbs and rates. Each 14-16 min flight has averaged about 425mAh per flight. 14 min of flying is a safe place to stop with reserve if you are doing a lot of higher rpm...

Got four more flights on the 91” ARS and one on the 73” Laser before I ran out of fuel in the jug. Man that laser is spunky. Ha ha. Really getting to know the ARS. Fine tuning some rates, and getting in touch with how it responds. Even saw a few flying buddies.... yes we practiced social distancing!

It’s a pain to tune it. But yes, once you get it set up, it does a pretty good job!

91" SkyWing ARS 300 Assembly Thread

Got two more flights on this baby. It was chilly, close to freezing, little swirly gusty wind from the glacier froze my fingers! I need to fine tune the travel limits, the current deflections in maneuvers will stop the plane like an airbrake... kinda scary actually. Crazy tail authority...

Scale 20cc DHC-2 "Beaver" Kit Build from Moustache Model Works

Beveled the elevator edges. This would have been a bit easier with the counterbalances off, but the ply section in the middle does provide a good reference point. I used a center finder/marker that came with a kit years ago. It was too small to get to the inboard section, so just marked the...

    5 Cylinder radial glow driver

Was your LiPo regulated to the designed mfgr's input voltage requirements? I guess I don't understand how that could fry the plugs with the regulator output voltage was stepped down properly. man that would be spendy! Those puppies are not cheap!! On another note, I saw somewhere that converting...

    Kmp beaver build hing question

Interesting! I wonder if it's to move the hinge point away from the control surface gap. Is it on the tail as well? The full scale beaver has drooping ailerons and fowler style flaps. The intent is to increase the chord as they extend. I wonder if this is a way to do that. I've never seen this...

Got some extra balsa block material in for my robart hinges. Sanded down, trimmed, measured my marks for the centerline for the hinges, and sheeted the elevators and horizontal. Elevator joiner blocks Scrap balsa for robart pins Leading edge put on and plained down. Razor blade saw...

I have actually never seen it done that way. Couldn't it pounce forward, hit your legs while you're leaning forward into the prop? I use a rope, tire it to my tire now. Finger on the kill switch as I start. each to his own though.

Elevator. Steps are just like the horizontal. No surprises. Note that E-1 rib is the end cap. I messed up and put a whole row in out of order. Luckily I only tacked them in place. So some surgical work with a blade took them out and I corrected the issue. Nice light ply sandwiched for balsa for...

Scale 20cc DHC-2 "Beaver" Kit Build from Moustache Model Works

More elevator work. Beveling the Stab edge to conform with the airfoil and ribs. I normally dread sanding. This balsa is top notch. Sands super easy. Pre fitted laser cut sheets. A tiny bit of prep to glue to top corner on. Note the alignment laser mark. Using Medium CA to glue the...

Scale 20cc DHC-2 "Beaver" Kit Build from Moustache Model Works

I decided to self isolate with the baby. With my wife being a nurse in Critical Care life was getting too hectic. Alaska just issued a mandate to hunker down and limit travel. I’ll be home for a month. Can’t work from home...
