91" SkyWing ARS 300 Assembly Thread

Did a wingtube hang, empty. It weighs 19.3lbs level flight on the tube. 19.5 with two 2550 2S LiPos. Excellent for hanging a 76cc twin up front. Weighs 1.5 pounds less than my 110” timber with a 55cc LOL!!

Nope! Just the one for the first opening in from of the tunnel where they made that neat air exit baffling. They even integrated an air dam into the cowling. Thought about opening up the air dam area in the cowl. But sometimes efficient airflow is better than a lot? With the strait muffs I don’t...

I do like it the way it is. It’s springy but yet rigid enough. So if your plane is 20-21lbs like mine... maybe worth whistling up another leaf.

Put the cowl and spinner on. Cowl is four Allen bolts, and the spinner is matched painted carbon. All included! You guys know what this means?? I’m done. Just waiting on weather so I can run the engine a do a test flight. I will check my CG first though.

Baffled the cowl air intakes. Used craft foam with Medium CA. But first used paper, trimmed and taped in place so I wouldn’t have to guess with the shape and form desired. Worked out pretty good. My mess...

Darnit. Sounds like QC missed the third leaf! HH is pretty good about sending stuff that’s broken of missing. Probably not that hard to make either. They could have made it thicker though too?

Prop is now perfectly balanced. I have an issue. I left the prop the neoprene sheath and it now feels almost rubberish, and left marks/blemishes on what was a beautiful hard coating. Wondering what’s up? Compound says it’s safe for all finishes. Doubt it’s that because it was washed afterwords...

Couldn't help but notice this thread has 10.8k views... in three months! That's like 100-150 views a day. Dang! Weather has been terrible. Lots of rain. In a 48hr period last week we saw 5.5" of rain. Then the low pressure moved away, got clear, 26F for a couple nights... Ooofff Leaves are...

Went to balance the prop. Huh... I had to dremel out the lead filled holes they had placed in from the factory. Not going to lie... it was quite a bit too. Somehow I magically managed to heal this prop by painting it. I added a tiny bit of lead back into the light prop side and filled it with...

Prop polishing!! It’s been a few days, My lacquer has had time to set and fully gas. Used 2000 wet sand paper, followed by Meguiars scratch x 2.0, followed by more sanding, 3m ultrafine foam polishing pad with more buffing compound watered down and presto! I was pleasantly surprised how well it...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Looks very nice! Herding cats is an understatement though. So many people with ideas and input, yet never respond to e-mails, no-shows for projects, excuses, never step up to the plate to actually help the club unless it's to their own personal benefit, and still complain that we are not...

I found that if you hit the little "x" on the top right of the add, you say why you don't want it, and it will say ads removed by google. .. no idea how long that last for, but I refreshed the page and they didn't come back... Oh and it was FIVE ads at the top! Banner, sub banner, and then three...

All I have left is engine baffling! Then it's run time and a flight!!! :mario-banana: It's only been three weeks... I even had a few tiny bumps along the way and some bonus painting/glassing items. All of this is made possible for the level of completion SkyWing has put into their airframes. I...

Wheel pants!! What beauties these are. I’ve had terrible luck in the past with these never lining up or staying on well. These fit pretty good, and was easy to level them. You don’t have to take the wheels or axels off to install or remove them. I used blue locktite on the screws and welders...

Wheel cuffs! First off, my ARF came with two left wheel pants... darn. Talked with Tim at NWRC, who had run out of stock on these. I said I could wait, but eventually would like a set. After a couple days he said he think he found a solution. One was being returned to him due to box damage, and...

Alert! CALL TO ACTION: FAA threatening new regulations!!!

Well... in an indirect way they are by hindering our hobby with adding blanket regulations without the supporting data to say that what we are doing is unsafe. The threat is that there appears to be a complete disregard for the minority, which is why we need to keep speaking up for ourselves and...

To me it seems like the banners are larger and now are in between the GSN banners on the home page. Either they are just bigger, or they added a few more in between posts.
