The flaps are very effective. Floats around to a crawl in the sky on 1/4 flaps, Full flaps are amazing at around 45-50deg (I think). Little throttle bump to maintain altitude decent rate on final works like a dream. It does balloon quite a bit requiring a down elevator stick input all the time...

91" SkyWing ARS 300 Assembly Thread

Thanks guys! Took a while. Kinda messed it up a bit when lightly scruffing up the paint for the clear coat. But it still turned out pretty nice. Need to wait a few days before polishing the clear coat a bit to clean up the lines. Worked on my antennas... I’ve been staring at them for weeks...

Venturing into the unknown... painting a prop. Feels wrong scruffing up and using rattle cans of automotive paint to do this... lol! We’ll see how it turns out once everything is set up. I’m going to clear coat it afterwords too. Gotta try new things sometimes. So far, it’s working out...

Well you can achieve 40deg with the 1.5” arm. Geometry is not that great. Plus if you want more deflection for flaps I suggest the 2” arms. It works out quite nice that way.

Which is why I went with the 2” arms and used the 1.75” hole. A 1.5” arm seemed to short to me as well. Just didn’t feel right to me at deflection, seemed like the servo was going to get its butt kicked.

Very nice! Servos look pretty. What are they again? My CG is close to 5” from the leading edge without fuel now.

I’m using the 1267. If it does fail, it would just stick for a second based on what I’ve seen.... but it has worked well for others and it’s super popular so we shall see!

Next job indeed! Fine tuning surfaces to match each other. Setting EPAs and deflections. The miracle throw meters are nice, you have to be gentle because there centering is picky, need to make a fixture that opens the jaws up a little. But works for now. Used a little digital protractor to match...

Still running strong this one! Flew it today and had lots of fun flying XA with it. Made a retro addition to my worn out aileron wire extensions LOL!!! They were starting to feel loose when plugged in so I figured it was time for new ones.

Worked on my choke setup. Basically found a threaded pushrod I had laying around, put a 2-56 ball link on it. Drilled a hole where I could dangle a piece of wire with a z bend in it attached to the choke lever. Put the cowl on, and checked where it hit and marked and dremeled out a hole large...

Not really... I tightened the bolts until they just started to squeeze out some RTV, waited a little bit then tightened them all the way. I think tightening them all the way in the beginning is the way to go, thinking that if there was any give in the RTV, it would eventually break down and get...

I tried to fit nordlocks as well, but they are wider than the hole. I really am a big fan of this method as well.

Slapped the mufflers on. Copper RTV on the bolt threads and a thin coat on the muffler mating surfaces.

Some wire routing. Used the foam wire standoffs for the ignition wires. Turned out pretty nice. I don’t know if I showed this or not. There is a foam insert with holes for the fuel tubing and wires to pass through. Kinda neat! I used the rubber grommet where the ignition module is on the...

Made a little opening in the cowl for the needle access. Used a little sippy straw and taped it to the needles, trimmed to length until it almost touched the cowl. Could see through the cowl to mark it and make an oblong hole.

Throttle linkage complete. Tried using the geometry guide as best I could. I cannot bring myself to let the servo arm go to zero degrees. As I move the throttle I can tell the carb arm moves quicker as it gets to the top. So I know there is some geometry creating a mechanical throttle curve...
