Yup! Stock tailgear is sandblasted. I cleaned it up and painted it black. Unfortunately we’re stuck with the wheel size. Been thinking of how to make a new fork for a larger wheel....

Got the tail assembly on. Here’s another PSA reminder to check all the joints: There is quite a few gaps in all the seams. Pick up a nice bottle of Thin/medium/ and dare I say thick CA to go over all the joints. Like I said the fit of the plywood interlocking parts are kinda poor. It’ll work...

Painted the tail springs flat black with acrylic lacquer. I always forget how stinky that stuff is! Drys quick, looks great!

Works really well!! Pop can helps heat it up quick with 10 sec from a blow or culinary torch. It seeps into the crevasses and kinda lubricates the hinge as well. DOUBLE BONUS!

Put the rudder on. 30min epoxy using the warmed up petroleum jelly trick on the hinges. Fit very nice. Of course I touched up the holes with an xacto knife and hit the covering with an iron for good measure prior.

Robust, yes. Horizon always seems to have more heavy ply than companies like extreme flight. Covering looks great. Minor touch ups on the trim/edges. Belly was a little scuffed up from the factory... but whose looking there anyways. My wing struts are two shades of yellow, once again whose...

Fitting.... um maybe more like retro fitting the XCub gear. What a pain. Sure, there are holes to put the gear on, but once in place I needed to bend, elongate holes, and grind to fit. Not an easy drop in task like I was hoping. It’s turning into a labor of love. Looks out of place upside down...

It’s an access cover. That’s all. The canopy is removable. So this is just a way to set up the interior.

Did some rude math, and figure out just how much heavier the XCub Gear with the PR 8.75” is compared to the stock gear with the foam 7” tires is. Stock is about 1.2lbs XCub with 8.75” PRs is about 3.8lbs So that’s a 2.6lb increase using these bad boys.

I probably should have read the manual or opened up the hardware bag. Too excited. I found there is a Landing gear plug block ha ha. Duh!

Mixed up some 30min epoxy to cover the gear block for oil residue and water protection. Smeared it with my finger and a glove on after sealing the edges with a covering iron.

I may be ok. I’m starting to think this pin was removed by force intentionally. I can see all the pins except the last outboard one. It’s just 46” away, 7 other pins inline, and looking through a 1” square hole ha ha. By the looks of it, I should be able to see missing material around the hinge...

All the other control surfaces looked pretty good. Cleaned up some excess glue, but overall after a little work, they move just about bevel to bevel. Although I know I could have done a way better job, it’s the price that we pay for letting someone else do the dirty work of hinging. The one...

Uh oh. Moved the wing and something was rattling around... Half a hinge popped out. Looks like it was twisted and sheared. Edit: this appears to have been replaced at the factory and left inside. My hinges are fine. Also found a pin block floating next to a pin.... check your hinges! Shoot.

The cowling is top notch. Painted very well. At the back it’s roughly 8” across by 7.5” high and tapers forward to 6.5” across up to the 3” spinner

I have a confession to make. FedEx said my plane will be delivered today.... I went to bed thinking about the plane hoping to sign for it in time.... I DREAMT that he showed up, I was shirtless/just woke up, frantically looking over the box for damage (which there was) and the box was long and...

Well because scale is important! Played with the axels, decided to use the two little grub screws. Ground a flat spot on either side. It will work.
