Ran out of servo wire.. Hanson hobbies to the rescue. I have some twisted 20ga enroute. Also, I don’t like the carb arms supplied. Ordered up some extended arms for the DLE55. Along with that, a bowman ring, and a fancy carb plate from VVRC.... shoot maybe I should have just got the DA60 ha ha...

Prepped the control horns with 100 grit, and wiped with isopropyl, touched the corners with a file. One thing I’ve never understood is why make a beveled control surface with a setup that won’t allow you to hit the stops. This is my newest debacle Long 2” arm on the lower control horn...

Solved my engine mount spacer debacle. Had a nice chunk of phenolic that’s just over a 1/4” thick. Perfecto. Found a 7/8” hole saw with a little bit that was drilled out to accommodate the bolts... in which I got some longer ones as well. I now have enough cowl to spinner clearance to make me happy.

I measured the cowl on post #33 on page 4. FWIW the VVRC 40cc twin is 8" across cap to cap (angled plugs) and still 7" head to head. The Timber is 8" across at the back of the cowl and tapers forward to about 6.5" in the front. If I do some rude calculations 3" back from the top of the cowl...

True! Hard to beat a DA! The one thing I know is that the DLE55 has a pretty decent reputation, otherwise I would have gone with the DA as well. One thing to keep in mind is that the DLE Muffler doesn't weigh anything. However, it does look on paper that the DLE weighs almost a half pound...

Sounds like the nose likes a little more weight up front than a 35cc has for balancing. So at least a 50cc in my book. DLE55RA is on sale at NWRC FYI! https://northwestrc.com/DLE55RA--55cc-REAR-EXHAUST-Aircraft-Gas-Engine_p_1070.html Which is half the cost of a DA60! Food for thought. I think...

Looking like I’m going to need at least a 1/4” spacer for the engine mounts for the prop hub to make it through. Even in the manual they have you put a spacer on for the evo33. There is no mention on the dle 55. The supplied mounts will bring the 55 to almost flush or a decent gap. So time to...

Preparing to cut the cowl. Printer paper taped to the fuselage, press it up against the engine, marked, remove engine, Ca the engine mount holes for a little extra rigidity, tape the cowl up, and transfer the engine location with a sharpie. Don’t want to wake up my wife, so grinding is for...

DLE 55 mounted. The top laser cut template holes were a little narrow. Aimed for the outside of the square on the top holes when drilling. Square, and very close. But measure twice drill once!! Drilled a pilot hole followed by a #9 drill bit.

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Got that right. I cannot even concentrate when the shop is a mess. I cleaned it up a few times over the last couple days, my wife's friend needs to store a wood bed frame in the garage.... :cryin: I said lean it up against the workbench. However, if there is a will there is a way! and I will...

Might just keep it "Scale" If I had hub caps (which I do not) maybe then I'd go with a yellow or red. Black is easy to match too lol

I’ve seen it where people paint the hubs black... I’m thinking it would look even better. The more I look at the gray hub the more I wish it were black! But yes, once the plane is dressed those wheels look awesome!!!
